About

San Diego Unified’s newest elementary school is under construction and nearly complete. Serving Mission Valley families and students, the new school has been named Nipaquay Elementary, after an indigenous Kumeyaay village.

Nipaquay Elementary will offer students an academic focus on environmental science and Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics (STEAM), supported by a sustainable design that incorporates solar power and energy efficiency.

This new campus features next generation first-grade through fifth grade classrooms with roll-up doors that open to the outside, creating hybrid indoor and outdoor learning spaces; a two-story entryway building that will house student services, a library, makerspaces, secure visitor check-in, and professional development spaces; dedicated play areas for UTK, kindergarten, and first-grade through fifth-grade students, and a versatile indoor and outdoor multipurpose facility.

Near a transit line and featuring bike racks, Nipaquay is the result of years of planning and collaboration with Sudberry Properties, which is currently developing the former sand and gravel quarry into a pedestrian friendly, mixed-use community.

Nipaquay Elementary will open to Universal Transitional Kindergarten (UTK) - 2nd grade in Fall 2022. An additional grade will be added each school year until reaching UTK-5th grade. Pre- enrollment for resident pupils in grades UTK-2 is open now, please see the parent tab for more info.
